Here is the part most shops will not say plainly: we do not want seams either. A seam is more labor for us than a single piece, so our interest and yours are perfectly aligned. We place as few seams as physically possible, never seam an island unless it exceeds slab size, show every seam on the drawing you sign before fabrication, and hold finished seams to Natural Stone Institute guidelines, roughly 1/16 to 1/8 inch and level. If a seam is ever legitimately wrong, we repair it: re-epoxy, re-level, or open and reset it. That is rare.

What if something goes wrong?

Natural fissures that were part of your slab are part of the stone (you saw and touched them at selection). A crack that appears after fabrication or install is different: report it as early as possible, and we repair it with color-matched epoxy or replace the piece if the repair does not meet our standard. Labor is covered for 1 year, natural stone material for 1 year, and engineered stone by the manufacturer, typically 15 years and lifetime for Cambria.

How Your Countertop Project Works, Start to Finish

A countertop project at iDesign Granite takes 8 steps and typically 5 to 12 business days from digital measurement to installation. Here is exactly what happens, what it costs to start (nothing), what you need to have ready, and where the common surprises hide. This is the same process we have run across more than 5,000 installs.

Step 1: Get a free estimate (no site visit needed)

You do not need an appointment or a measurement visit to get a price. Send a rough sketch of your kitchen or bath with approximate dimensions, or photos, by email or through our project form, and we will price the project for real. Many customers, especially investors and flippers, run the entire selection by email. Others start with a showroom visit, which takes anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes depending on how many slabs you want to see.

Step 2: Pick your stone in a real slab yard

Samples lie. A 4-inch square cannot show you the movement in a granite or quartzite slab, which is why our slab yard is organized so you can walk it and see every full slab we own, around 500 slabs in 50 to 60 colors. Since 2026 we also ask natural stone buyers to do something unusual: run your hands over your actual slab before we fabricate. Fissures, pits, and leathered texture are natural parts of stone, and we would rather set expectations with your fingertips than with a complaint call later. There are always clearance and discounted slabs in stock if you are working to a budget.

Step 3: Digital measurement

Once you decide to move forward, our technician measures your space with a Proliner or laser templater, producing a CAD drawing accurate to the millimeter, including exact overhangs and wall contours. This precision is why our pieces fit against walls without cutting into drywall and why we essentially never recut a piece for mismeasurement.

Have ready: countertops completely cleared, so the scanner can reach every corner.

Step 4: Sign-off and deposit

Sales confirms your final price against the actual measurements (your original quote was an estimate; the measurement makes it exact). You sign the drawing, which shows every seam location, sign the contract, and pay a deposit. Builders and contractors with accounts are invoiced after completion instead.

Approve your layout before anything is cut

Every slab in our shop is photo-scanned. For natural stone and high-movement patterns, we place your countertop shapes onto the actual photograph of your actual slab and send you the rendering. You see precisely where every vein falls, and nothing is cut until you approve it through a signed digital form. Uniform materials go straight to production, and on expedited jobs the shop proposes the layout for your quick approval. Either way, the final say is always yours. Very few shops in this industry offer digital layout approval, and it has repeatedly been the reason customers choose us over competitors.

Fabrication and in-shop sealing

Your stone is cut on our Voyager XP CNC saw, edged on the Titan CNC router, and polished in the shop. Fabrication takes about 1 to 1.5 days, up to 2 for large jobs. Then the step most shops skip: freshly cut stone is still wet, so natural stone dries overnight and is sealed the following morning by certified Dry-Treat applicators, with a sealer rated for up to 25 years. Sealing happens under shop conditions every time, never left to an installer's discretion at your house.

Installation day

Crews load at 7 AM and install 2 to 4 jobs a day. A bathroom vanity takes about an hour; a typical kitchen takes 2 to 4 hours; almost every job is done within half a day. New construction goes faster than replacements, since there is no tear-out.

Have ready: countertops cleared, the cabinet under the sink emptied, and anything blocking the work area (like a refrigerator parked against a countertop run) moved. If you need help moving things, tell us in advance and we can assist with a signed liability form.

Step 8: Walkthrough and sign-off

You review the finished work and sign a completion form. The install crew photographs the job and uploads it to the shop the same day, where the whole team, including JJ, reviews it. That photo review after every single install is a big part of how quality stays consistent at this volume.
